stations1
On Sunday 11th March six students from our school dressed in their school uniform and represented our school community at the Stations of the Cross at “Maryfields” Campbelltown. The ceremony was a very beautiful and prayerful celebration. The student representatives from each of the local Catholic primary schools led the large group of Catholic families who attended in the prayer celebration, giving a brief background as to the station we were viewing as well as a reflection allowing us, the participants, to reflect on the meaning of Christ’s suffering and how it relates to our own lives. Sincere thanks the students, staff and parents who attended.

Liturgies - 21st March 2012
Yr5liturgy2
Over the past fortnight we have had two very beautiful liturgies. Our Year 5 (9th March) and Year 1 (16th March) celebrated the season of Lent with very prayerful liturgies. Both liturgies were well attended with quite a few parents present. Thank you to the families who provided refreshments for morning tea, they were very much appreciated by all.

Yr5 liturgy
At the Year 5 liturgy Father Michael and Patrick Muema Kimulu, a seminarian visiting the parish joined us. During the homily, Patrick told us of his background in Kenya and shared some of his experiences and learning with the children. Patrick will be with the St Paul’s Parish for the next 4 months before going to St Anthony’s in Picton.

Homework or not? - 19th March 2012
Three Green have been learning about how to write persuasive texts. This morning we brainstormed arguments for and against homework and discussed the language and structure of persuasive writing.

View a very short movie of Year Three’s work.

Now what have we convinced you? Do you think we should we have homework or not?????

Recently our Year 6 student leaders were inducted into their roles in a special ceremony in the school hall. Joining us on this occasion were quite a number of Year 6 parents and our Year 5 students. The student leadership roles at St Clare’s are one of service. It is our hope and prayer that, through their positive actions, our students will help make a real and positive difference to our school and community. Congratulations to the students who were inducted recently.

Project Compassion - 6th March 2012
Last week 12 students accompanied Mr Divine to the Mary Shiel Centre at St Patrick’s College for the official launch of the 2012 Diocesan Project Compassion Appeal. Apart from a delicious morning tea, the students were treated to some amazing audio visual experiences to help them internalise the importance of the Project Compassion Appeal, in supporting the poor and marginalised of our society.

Ash Wednesday Mass - 28th February 2012
Ash2
We had a most prayerful celebration of Holy Mass in our school hall for Ash Wednesday. The beautiful singing voices of the children were impressive. In the past few years we have witnessed a significant change to the level of participation of the students at school liturgies. Congratulations to the staff, and in particular Mrs Sheedy and Mrs Quinnell for the work they have done in bringing about this change.

Opening School Mass - 23rd February 2012
Mass2
Last Friday we gathered together at St Paul’s Church to celebrate holy Mass. The community of St Clare’s used the beginning of year Mass to offer thanks for the many gifts we have been given. The Mass enabled Father to bless the students and staff of St Clare’s as they commence the new school year. Thank you to the many parents who were able to join with us on this occasion.

At the Mass we formally farewelled Mrs Harris and Mrs Miranda - we wish them well in their new schools.

P&F Welcome BBQ - 22nd February 2012
BBQ1
Last Friday, despite some stormy weather, the Parent’s and Friend’s Association held their annual BBQ to welcome new families to our school community. The event was well attended, enabling parents to have an opportunity to meet families who will be sharing school with over the coming years. The students delighted in showing off their new friends and school environment. Thank you to the P&F executive for organising this important social event.

Guest Artist Visits Year 3 - 14th February 2012
Year31
On Friday the 10th February, Year Three enjoyed learning about sketching landscapes and portraits from Doug Hand, a graphic artist. He came in to teach us about sketching as this term we are learning about ‘Still Life’ in Visual Arts.
Doug taught us how to use the rule of thirds and the vanishing point to create perspective in landscapes. After learning the techniques, we had a go at sketching our own landscapes. We were amazed by our own creations!

Year33
Doug also taught us how to sketch portraits. When we had a go at our own self portraits, we were once again surprised at how much our sketches suddenly improved.
We learnt so much from Doug and feel that his lessons have helped to bring out our creative abilities. We hope that he can come to visit again later this term.

Last Tuesday we welcomed our new Kindergarten classes for the 2012 school year, as they commence their journey through 13 years of school. We hope that these students will enjoy their time at St Clare’s learning that they are of great value and that they can make a difference in our world. We also welcome a large number of new families to grades other than Kindergarten. I hope that you will meet many new friends and enjoy your time at this new school. We no doubt will be enriched by your presence with us.
